Lights across the Tree

Residence Design by PoCheng Chu, YaYi Tsai and YingYu Chen

At the beginning of this project, preserving most of the original interior design are taken into consideration so that the most delicate and unrestricted design skills both reconnect the relationship between the inner and outer spaces and magnifies the space characteristics after loosening the intense connections among spaces.

Designed by PoCheng Chu, YaYi Tsai, and YingYu Chen, Lights across the Tree is a unique residence that seamlessly blends nature with modern design. The inspiration for this project came from the idea of creating a space that values the beauty and warmth of life. By allowing daylight to pass through greenery hedges, the designers have created elegant lines that extend the space in all directions, showcasing their sensitive approach to design.

One of the strengths of this design is the preservation of the original interior design while incorporating delicate and unrestricted design skills. This approach reconnects the relationship between the inner and outer spaces and enhances the space characteristics by loosening the intense connections among spaces. The result is a harmonious blend of old and new, creating a unique and inviting atmosphere.

The design of Lights across the Tree focuses on the surrounding landscapes and introduces natural light into the house, reflecting the client's standards of life aesthetics. Professional design skills are applied to connect the relationship between the houses, creating a seamless flow between indoor and outdoor spaces.

The residence spans 198 square meters and features an array of hedges with greenery plants on the outdoor area beside the living room. This design element not only adds privacy to the living room but also enhances the connection between the indoor and outdoor spaces.

Completed in March 2016 in Taichung City, Lights across the Tree is a result of extensive research and creative problem-solving. The integration of natural light and leather colors represents a rebirth for a new home, while the black-and-white cube storage in the medium space between the living and dining room contains the history of the family.

Lights across the Tree was awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design category in 2017. This prestigious award recognizes designs that demonstrate outstanding creativity and resourcefulness, incorporating best practices in art, science, design, and technology. The design contributes to quality of life improvements and makes the world a better place.
